Hetty Brace Ship’s
Log
March
2001
The weather lately is the
kind of stuff the Florida Chamber of Commerce would like you to believe happens
all year around. It’s perfect. Cool at night and warm and sunny during
the day. Unfortunately in a month
or two is going to be, well, hotter than hell.
Speaking of hell, we
survived the haul out from. As soon
as the boat was picked up we could see that there was a big problem with our 2
and a half year-old barrier coat.
The solution, unfortunately, was to grind it all off. It’s not fun lugging around an 8”
grinder for 8 hours a day – all the while looking at the toxic white dust that
you spent so much time and money putting on. We did get a lot of other things done,
though. All in all, it was a good
haul out – even if Alfie did hate being carried up and down the ladder and we
had to live in yard grime.
So now I’m a boat
husband. Finally, I have time to do
all of the things I’ve thought about while at work. I’ve had two days of it so far. Today I brought out the new portable
table saw. Incredibly, I am still
fully in possession of all of my fingers – nothin’ got poked out, either. The table saw makes things much easier
and I have a bunch of interior trim projects in mind for it. With all of the projects planned, it
will be a while before I’m spending my days lounging around in a dirty bathrobe
and fuzzy slippers.
March was a tough month
around here. The sale of the store,
as smooth as it was, was still incredibly chaotic. The very next day we hauled out and had
two weeks of fun there. I’m looking
forward to things slowing down to a manageable level.
As I read this, I realize
how boring our lives must seem to anyone reading this. Maybe I should talk about the dinner we
had with a knee-capping mobster – who was, by the way, the perfect
gentleman. Nah, I think that will
hold until we meet in person.
The Captain and Crew of
Hetty Brace wish you fair winds!
